About Me!

Hello, and thanks for visiting my blog.  I mean it.  I really do appreciate it.  I spend a lot of time putting my thoughts into words, and it’s nice to be able to share them.  It’s nice to know I’m not just writing to myself.

So here’s the short version of who I am and how I ended up authoring this blog.  I’ve always had a passion for helping people.  I went to law school so that I could help people.  I took a job in public service, and for seven years, I helped people.

But things started to go downhill.  With management and bureaucracy and all things government, the focus started shifting from helping people to budgets and egos and all the other downsides that go with working for someone else.  Finally, I was fired from my job.  At the time, I thought my world was ending.  Within a year, I realized that it was the best thing that ever happened to me.

Fortunately, I was able to go into business for myself.  I quickly built a great six figure business.  I was helping people and making a little money doing it.  Life was good.  Right?

Well, for several reasons not relevant here, life wasn’t that great.  As for the relevant reasons, I was just restless.  I was at the top of my profession.  But I was no where near the end of my career.  I couldn’t imagine doing this same thing for another 40 years!

After my last experience working for someone else, I knew I was unemployable.  So I started devouring the business opportunity ads.  I’ve always been interested in nutrition.  So my first venture was with a health and nutrition company.  I’d never heard the terms “MLM” or “network marketing” when I signed up.  If I had, I likely wouldn’t have joined with the same optimism and enthusiasm that I did.  Not that I dislike network marketing, I don’t, but I quickly learned it’s much harder to quit your day job than the ads claim.

Of course I did not succeed in that first business, despite some pretty impressive effort.  That business was a lesson, not a failure.  Among the many things it taught me was the power and necessity of personal development.  And through that business I was introduced to my most powerful mentor, Jim Rohn.

I tried everything over the next few years, and I do mean everything.  Most of them I’m a little embarrassed to confess for fear that you’ll question my intelligence.  There were more MLM companies, judgment collection, chain letters, envelop stuffing, type at home programs, paid surveys . . . you get the picture.  I’m not sure I really believed any of them would work.  But, the price was always worth the hope I was buying.

One day in my search, I somehow ran across internet marketing.  And then affiliate marketing.  Wow, “this sounds easy.” I naively thought.  And so began my three year journey through the internet marketing world.  I bought it ALL.  I had more money than sense.

I had kind of lost my feel for what I wanted to do.  I’d had my first child by now, and all I knew was that I wanted to quit trading time for money.  I wanted to be with my baby.  I was a work at home mom, but the full time job of mothering combined with my full time career was killing me.  I needed to leverage my time.

Unfortunately, I am a copywriter’s dream-come-true.  I could never resist a well-written sales letter.  I could be serious competition for the prize of most un-read Ebooks on my hard drive.  I have at least one $1000 piece of miracle software that I can think of off the top of my head that I’ve never even installed.  I thought I had to buy everything.  And every time I bought something new, it either pulled me off my current course that hadn’t resulted in my million dollar payday, or it sat unopened on my computer.

In short, I spent a couple of years learning everything and doing nothing.  I wasn’t even sure what I wanted to sell in my business.  I never thought I knew enough to even get my business up and running.

The things that kept me from giving up were my strong belief in personal development and my commitment to always be there for my kids.  I knew I could run a successful online business.  In all my life, I had never failed at anything I had wanted to do.

So when I figured out that I could make a business out of my passion, I knew there were two things that called to me.  (The second business is still in the works.  I’ll keep you posted)  It went back to what I’ve always been drawn to — helping other people.

I vowed to help others build a successful online business.  Especially moms (and dads!) who hate the idea of having someone else raise their kids.  I knew I had to help others save the thousands of dollars and hours I had wasted.  Doing so would make every one of those dollars and hours worth it to me.  And that’s how this blog was born.

The focus of this blog is how your mindset connects with online business success.  Because I have found that at least 75% of the formula for success is having the right mindset.  The other 25% is having the right road map for actually setting up and running your business.

But nobody wants to talk about your mindset.  And, nobody wants to hear about it — until they realize how crucial it is.  The focus is on the technical aspects of making money now.  That’s why everyone is failing.  It’s a big cycle of buying product after product because all the gurus are promoting each others’ stuff and if you want to be crazy rich like them you’ve got to buy the products they promote.  Not.

So here is my promise to you.  I will always give you good free content.  I will do this because (1) it will make you trust me, and (2) it will make me feel good if it helps you in any way.  I will promote only things that I have personally used and benefited from.  Everything I promote won’t be for everyone.  Nothing I promote will be something you can’t succeed without.  If you ever wonder if a product is right for you, ask me and we’ll talk about it.
