3 Reasons YouTube Must Be In Your Marketing Strategy

And you’ve probably said to yourself, “I really should be using YouTube to market my business.” And yet, strangely, you likely don’t have a single video up on YouTube.

Now is the time to change that. Not in 2013. Not after you’ve finished the video marketing course you bought a year ago. Not after you have time for a haircut. Now. There are 3 reasons why.

1. YouTube Makes You Unique

Despite YouTube’s popularity, the vast majority of entrepreneurs still aren’t using it to build and market their businesses. The most commonly heard barriers to YouTube marketing are (1) I don’t have the equipment to make and post a video, (2) I don’t have the technical knowledge required to make and post a video, and (3) I don’t look good on video.

Well, it’s time to get over these excuses. In fact, over the next few weeks, I’ll help you get over them. But today, I want you to realize how essential it is to bag the excuses and push “record” on the camera.

Whatever market you are in, it’s undoubtedly a crowded one. There are more people than ever trying to build a profitable online business. And the biggest challenge to doing that isn’t talent or knowledge, it’s the ability to get noticed.

Finding your unique voice in your market ~ something that makes you stand out, get noticed, be remembered ~ is more important than ability and expertise in the online marketing world.

Guess what? With video, you’re automatically unique in your market. Okay, maybe there are one or two others doing it. But striving to stand out among one or two or even ten other people is a much easier task than trying to grab a share of a market that hundreds or thousands of others are fighting for.

And, when you’re marketing with YouTube, you don’t have to be perfect, or even great. Everyone in your market is blogging, and producing tons of written content across all of their social media platforms. So, if you’re going to be unique and stand out in your market based on your written content, it’s got to be great stuff.

Maybe someday that will also be true for YouTube. But right now, you’ve just got to do it relatively well, and that’s relatively easy.

So, it’s time to stop putting it off. In a fraction of the time you spend brainstorming how to be unique and get noticed in your market, you could have your first video up and be on your way there.

2. YouTube is the Best Relationship Builder

Have you heard that marketing these days is all about relationships? That people want to do business with people, not companies?

What’s the quickest way to build a relationship? Walk up to someone, introduce yourself, shake their hand, and start talking to them. Virtually speaking, the closest you can get to that is through video. Because with video, your personality comes through in a way that just can’t be done with writing. With video, people can really feel like they know you as a person.

Think about it. Have you ever read an email and been uncertain or even offended at something that you read? And it turned out that your reaction was a result of not being able to hear the sender’s tone of voice in the written word?

And when you do know someone in real life, do you tend to hear their voice in your head as you’re reading what they write to you?

Connecting with your market on video allows you to build personal, real life relationships with people without meeting them in real life. And it allows your audience to get to know, like and trust you in a way that just can’t be done with writing alone. And that’s the key to building a profitable business.

  • 72 hours of video are uploaded every minute, or more than one hour of video every second.
  • In 2011 YouTube had over one trillion video views.
  • Over 3 billion hours of video are watched each month on YouTube.
  • More video is uploaded to YouTube in one month than the 3 major US networks created in 60 years.
  • In 2011 there were almost 140 views for every person on Earth
  • In one minute online there are 100 new accounts created on LinkedIn; 100,000 tweets sent on Twitter; 277,000 log ins on Facebook; and 2.8 million videos viewed on YouTube.
  • 500 years of YouTube video are watched every day on Facebook.
  • Over 700 YouTube videos are shared on Twitter each minute.
  • 100 million people take a social action on YouTube (likes, shares, comments, etc) every week.
